The Kennett Township Board of Supervisors discussed the future of historic Spar Hill Farm — site of some HBO shoots for Mare of Easttown. Richard Gaw covered the details for the Chester County Press.

Recommendations from the township’s historical commission precipitated the conversation.

The township acquired the 137-acre property on Burnt Mill Road — “a jewel,” according to Joe Duffy of the township’s Land Conservation Advisory Committee — in 2018. During the meeting, the supervisors, commission members, and audience brainstormed on its preservation. Attendees also considered how to best preserve the site’s structures and how to best align them under their vision.

The ideas included turning the farm into an educational center to showcase what agricultural life in southern Chester County was like during the 1800s and early 1900s.

The buildings include the main house, a carriage house, an ice house, a cow barn, a stable workshop, a cement cattle husbandry block, and a silo.

The historical commission recommended hiring a historic preservation consultant to review all the recommendations and develop a final preservation plan.
