QVC Launches Interactive Streaming Service on Comcast Platforms

By

West Chester-based QVC and its sister network HSN have launched a streaming app on Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex services that allows for interactive shopping on Comcast platforms, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

This makes QVC and HSN Streaming Service the first shopping app available on either Comcast platform. Although the app does not expand the household reach for the two companies, it does provide them with a new entry point to reach Comcast subscribers.

Viewers currently can learn about products and watch related original content on the app; however, they have to complete their purchases using their computers or phone. Qurate Retail Group, the parent company of QVC and HSN, are planning to make the streaming service shoppable by early next year across all platforms. In addition to Xfinity devices, this will include Roku, Amazon Fire TV, LG’s Shop Time app, and Apple TV.

The streaming service also provides access to a video-on-demand catalog, as well as original programming geared specifically for streaming.

“Our goal is that this becomes our flagship experience, because it’s so much richer than the (linear-only) experience,” said Qurate CEO Mike George.
