Pennsylvania Institute of Technology continues to enhance its role as a smaller, personal alternative to community college in the Delaware County and Philadelphia Region.

P.I.T. creates student success stories by providing the best education for career advancement and transfer opportunities.

In keeping with that goal, this independent college in Media has named H. Matthew (Matt) Meyers as its 11th president and CEO.

Meyers has been serving as the school’s Executive Vice President. He replaces the late President William B. Robison, Jr. who passed away in January from COVID-19.

In its unanimous vote choosing Meyers, the college’s Board of Trustees noted that he has been an “extraordinarily effective and collaborative higher education leader.”

The fact he has grown with P.I.T. during its upward trajectory in the past 13 years makes him the perfect person to lead the school as it continues to grow.

Meet Matt Meyers

President Meyers earned his B.A. from Muhlenberg College and holds an M.B.A.

He served as Assistant Director of Admissions at P.I.T. from 2008 to 2016 before being promoted to Director of Admissions and Marketing, where he served for two years.

He became the Vice President for Administration in 2019 and served for two years until being named Executive Vice President in January 2021.

Board of Trustees Chairman Thomas McDuffie expressed his pride watching Meyers grow and mature during his 13 years at P.I.T.

“Confidence emanates from the way he had accepted responsibility and gathered the reins of leadership during the past eight-plus turbulent months when we both lost President Robinson and adapted to the fickle horror of COVID,” McDuffie stated.

Meyers has been a member of the college’s leadership for more than a decade. Throughout, he’s remained flexible, he’s learned and he’s made sound decisions, McDuffe stated.

What P.I.T. offers

New this summer, the non-profit joins a handful of two-year colleges that offer students a personalized and affordable four-year bachelor degree in nursing and general studies.

Always thinking ahead, P.I.T. began a Cannabis Studies program in the fall of 2019, offering three associate degrees, one in Cannabis Business, one in Cannabis Health Therapy and one in Cannabis Horticulture.

Students can also earn associate degrees in other subjects that include:

  • Healthcare
  • Behavioral health
  • Practical nursing
  • Psychology
  • Physical therapy assistant
  • Diagnostic medical sonography

Professional certification is available in practical nursing and clinical medical assisting.

It has transfer agreements with many universities in the region allowing students to easily transfer to bachelor’s degree programs.

It also provides lifelong career placement assistance to its students.

A little history

P.I.T. has been around for 68 years, helping transfer students earn degrees and specialized certificates.

The Middle-States-accredited college opened its first campus in 1953 in Upper Darby, where it remained for almost 30 years until 1982, when it relocated to larger grounds at its 14-acre Rose Valley-Media campus.

The vision for the school came from founder Walter R. Garrison. He saw a need for engineers who could perform stress analysis in aircraft and civil/architectural fields.

He began offering classes in Upper Darby in mathematics, stress analysis and other technical subjects.

By 1976, The Pennsylvania Department of Education was allowing P.I.T. to award associate’s degrees for its technical programs.

P.I.T. received its Middle States accreditation in 1983, making it easier than ever for P.I.T. students to transfer their credits to a four-year college or university to complete a Bachelor’s degree.
