After five years of grieving the loss of their Marine son, Maryellen and Vic Presutti still await the truth behind what really happened to him, writes William Bender for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ryan Presutti was found dead in Alabama in 2016. His death was initially ruled a suicide, but a year later, the coroner quietly changed the manner of death to “undetermined.”

This reclassification was only one of a number of inconsistencies about the case.

Presutti’s family and friends knew the Marine did not appear depressed or suicidal. Moreover, he was an outspoken advocate against suicide.

“There have been so many red flags throughout this whole thing,” said Presutti’s father, Vic. “We know this wasn’t suicide.”

The family hired a private investigator who discovered several other disturbing facts. The Marine’s former friend, who discovered his body, provided shifting accounts on his whereabouts on the weekend Presutti died. Witnesses also saw him in possession of some of Presutti’s valuables.

The family now hopes that additional evidence will yield further official investigation into their son’s death.

“I just want somebody to do their job,” said his mother.
