The Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford recently unveiled Tipping Point, a bronze sculpture by Cochranville artist Rikki Morley Saunders that depicts a pair of male peacocks competing in flight, writes Jen Samuel for the Daily Local News.

“I am honored and thrilled to have Tipping Point in the Brandywine’s collection,” said Morley Saunders.

The artist’s work is held in high regard, as evidenced by some of the galleries housing it: Hudson River Museum, the National Sculpture Society, and Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina.

Martha Stewart curated Saunders’s sculptures for The Philadelphia Show, presented by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Saunders observed peacocks for more than three decades. She finds the battle for dominance between the males “extraordinary.”

“I hope my sculpture conveys the raw beauty of these magnificent creatures — with their powerful, swirling, aerobatic maneuvers and intense exploitation of feathers — that depicts a fleeting moment when the outcome of their impassioned encounter is still unknown,” she said.

The towering sculpture is located near the museum’s front entrance.
