Greater Philadelphia is home to many farms and orchards that have fields bursting with berries throughout the season. Some provide the opportunity to pick your own fruit, writes Nick Vadala for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In Chester County, the place to go to if you are looking to make some memories — in addition to pies and jams — is Highland Orchards in West Chester.

Apple-picking in the fall is the orchard’s hallmark. But a spring/summer visit can be fruitful as well.

Pick-your-own-berries season starts in late May/early June. Strawberries are first on the seasonal ripening schedule, followed by raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

And anyone who wishes to expand beyond the berries can also pick sour and sweet cherries in mid-June.

If you want to give berry-picking a try, make a reservation online.
