Chester County Home to Four of the Safest ‘Cities’ in Pennsylvania
Chester County is home to four of the 50 safest “cities” in Pennsylvania for 2021, writes Rebecca Edwards for SafeWise.
SafeWise is an online resource that offers safety solutions, information, and recommendations for your home and community. To rank locations based on their safety, SafeWise used crime statistics, along with demographic information and the results of its State of Safety research study.
East Brandywine Township ranked highest in Chester County in seventh place. The township catapulted 71 places compared with last year.
East Brandywine recorded 0.4 violent crimes per 1,000 people in 2021 compared to 0.8 in 2020 and 1.8 property crimes per 1,000 people, down from 4.3 the previous year.
Next is West Vincent Township at No. 11. The township improved 42 places compared with last year, despite a slight rise in violent crimes (0.2 per 1,000 people to 0.3 this year). Property crimes, however, fell significantly, from 5.0 to 2.7 per 1,000 people.
West Brandywine Township follows in No. 37 with 0.5 violent crimes and 7.2 property crimes per 1,000 people.
The list is rounded out by Westtown-East Goshen at No. 39. The location recorded 1.4 violent crimes and 5.3 property crimes per 1,000 people.
