Berwyn native Brad Ingelsby, a famous screenwriter and film producer, explores family and community dynamics in his latest project, the HBO limited series Mare of Easttown, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.

The show stars Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan, a local hero and high school basketball star who follows in her father’s footsteps and now serves as a detective in her small town. As she tries to solve a tough missing-persons case, she has to deal with her decaying personal life.

“At the core of the story is a woman having to deal with grief,” said Ingelsby. “I hope it’s an honest character study. I hope that’s what you’d say about anything I’ve written.”

Ingelsby, who became interested in pursuing a filmmaking career after taking a screenwriting class at Villanova, wrote and produced the seven-episode series for HBO.

Filming on the show began in 2019, with Coatesville, Downingtown, Aston, and Drexel Hill serving as the backdrop rather than the titular Easttown.

“The people of Easttown are going to be mad at me,” joked Ingelsby.

The show will premiere on April 18.
