The winner of the first-ever Delaware County Cheesesteak Bowl was (better grab on to something) not from Delaware County.

Dan Kennedy, 38, from West Decatur, Pa., in Clearfield County, took home a plaque and a trip to Cancun after eating two Delcos, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

For the uninitiated, the Delco is a sandwich at Delco Steaks in Broomall, a two-foot-long cheesesteak filled with 1.5 pounds of meat.

He ate the first in a minute, 39 seconds; the second in 1 minute, 34 seconds.

Estimated calories: 6,000.

Delco Steaks owners Nick Reynolds and John McKenzie hosted the event at the Splash Swim Club in Broomall for National Cheesesteak Day.

From 32 competitors, the 10 fastest moved to round two and a second Delco.

In 2020, Kennedy ate 179 whoopie pies in seven minutes at another eating contest.

“It’s a like a sport,” Kennedy told his hometown newspaper, the Clearfield Progress, in 2020. “You train, you practice, you develop a skill and style … Everybody figures out how their body works and how to train it to do what you need it to do.”

Delco Steaks will reprise the Cheesesteak Bowl next year.
