Career Corner: Is Now the Best Time to Make a Drastic Career Change? Fortune Says Yes!
With the majority of industries changing their way of doing business due to the pandemic, now may be the ideal time to make a drastic career change, writes S. Mitra Kalita for Fortune.
Surveys show that this year will be the one where employers expect their employees to have the ability “to adapt, reskill, and assume new roles.” Meanwhile, employees are looking for organizations that strongly connect actions with purpose.
According to Ambika Nigam, founder of a career-focused startup Zeit, this makes it the perfect time to consider making a fundamental job move.
“We’re in this universal moment of pause and reflect. This has never happened in the world,” she said. “People are asking, ‘Is this what I wanna do in life?’ It’s rare to have the question be shared on both sides.”
Through her startup, Nigam has found that other key influences on the job market are pointing to a drastic job change. This includes geography, which is no longer a barrier to opportunity, and the switch to judging people based on AG, or adaptability quotient, instead of just their IQ.
Companies will also need to do more with less, making them open to adaptable career changers.
