Jan. 4 is National Spaghetti Day! Gear up for the year with a plate of pasta from your favorite Italian restaurant in Chester County and give homage to the much-celebrated spaghetti and meatballs.

Wikipedia says the origins of spaghetti are argued — was it Marco Polo bringing back this culinary invention from the East, or an Arab trade-route delicacy, or a home-grown Sicilian treat dating back to the 12th century? Time to do more ‘sketti research!

Many places have various ways of serving and dressing it up. Pasta is a glorious canvas to all sauces, meats, and vegs. In Chester County, these places know that a good sauce and toppings are what make the dish, right down to the last noodle.

Valley Forge

Valley Forge Trattoria and Lounge (located at 1130 Valley Forge Road in Phoenixville, 610-935-7579) is Italian dining with a view on the terrace and great food for takeout. Specialties such as the pasta with Feta cheese, olives, and their special garlic sauce, pasta with oil and garlic, or pasta with tomato sauce satisfies the hungriest customers.

West Chester

Pica’s Restaurant (located at  1233 West Chester Pike in West Chester, 484-983-3704. offers traditional spaghetti and meatballs. They also offer a spaghetti entree with a twist — try it topped with sweet crab meat and tomato sauce, or angel hair and clams with a smooth butter sauce, white wine, and pesto. Enjoy their family-style takeout entrees for a delicious night at home. Also check out their other restaurant: 7803 West Chester Pike in Upper Darby, 610-789-7770.

Chadds Ford

Antica Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar (located at 1623 Baltimore Pike in Chadds Ford, 484-770-8631) offers an array of Italian specialties — with so much pasta! Try the Sunday Supper, a rich red sauce with braised pork cheeks, ground sausage, meatballs, all over fresh homemade pasta, the lobster and crab pasta, or the traditional chicken or veal parmigiana, with marinara sauce over fresh pasta.

Chester Springs

Montesano Bros Trattoria & Catering (located at 55 Seaboldt Way in Chester Springs, 610-458-8065) created authentic Italian Family Meals To Go to help out on those days when virtual schooling and working from home are just too much! Each of their family meals feeds 4-5 people. There are 17 packages to choose from and order 24 hours in advance. Enjoy delicious packages like The Godfather, with ground beef lasagna, salad, a loaf of Italian bread, and mini cannoli.

Staying home? Make your own masterpiece with Talluto’s pasta in Ridley Park, Norristown, and the Philly Italian Market. Check out where to buy here.

Grab the family and enjoy local Italian takeout from these Chester County restaurants and indulge in the best comfort food around: spaghetti and meatballs!
