Warfel Construction Named Engineering News-Record’s Mid-Atlantic Firm of the Year
Warfel Construction, a full-service construction company based in Lancaster County with a Greater Philadelphia office located in Paoli, has been named Engineering News-Record’s Mid-Atlantic Firm of the Year, writes Bruce Buckley for ENR.
Warfel has weathered several storms in the construction industry throughout its 100-plus years in business and is now ready to take on any challenges the pandemic may create by using the lessons it has learned along the way.
Matt Hartzler, Warfel’s current president, finds inspiration from the firm’s founder, D.S. Warfel, who took on any work he could find during the Great Depression.
“It’s a reminder that we need to be opportunistic and flexible,” said Hartzler. “We need to be able to pivot within our organization.”
During the last major downturn, Warfel focused its strategic mission on diversifying its portfolio, deepening its commitment to repeat customers, and attracting and retaining employees who could carry it into the next century.
These efforts paid off. In the last three years, Warfel enjoyed its greatest period of growth, as its annual revenue grew from $130.9 million in 2017 to $191 million in 2018 and $213 million in 2019.
