Honeybrook Golf Club is among the many courses, both local and national, that are seeing a huge increase in people coming out to play during the pandemic, writes Joe Juliano for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“We’re beyond busy,” said Duane Lent, director of golf at Honeybrook Golf Club.

The course currently averages around 275 rounds a day, with many new golfers discovering the sport for the first time. There are also numerous families taking part in clinics and camps and lessons.

“We’re up over 5,000 rounds from last year already,” said Lent. “We had a pretty mild winter up to when we closed on March 13 and that helped, but we’ve never seen numbers like this.”

The situation is similar across the entire region. In fact, rounds of golf in the Philadelphia metropolitan area went up by 26.8 percent in July.

According to the Golf Association of Philadelphia executive director Mark Peterson, the number of scores posted this year by member clubs to the Golf Handicap and Information Network increased by more than 40 percent in the summer.
