Southern Chester County is home to a few wineries that are beloved by experts and underrated throughout the rest of the country, writes Maddy Sweitzer-Lammé for Philadelphia magazine.

Va La Vineyards in Avondale is a true oasis of passion and elegance. The owner, Anthony Vietri, is a seventh-generation Italian winemaker who prefers to make wine naturally. The winery offers both inside and outside seating and many delicious wines to try.

Wayvine Winery & Vineyard in Nottingham is set on a gorgeous property that has a big tent and heaters set up for small groups to hang out when the weather gets colder.

Meanwhile, Galer Estate in Kennett Square offers a beautiful spot for sipping wine on the deck in warmer weather, as well as a nice, cozy environment for cold-weather enjoyment at the indoor bar. Its Galer’s Huntress series offers a blend of history and wine as a nod to the Roman goddess, Diana.

Vox Vineti in Christiana is a one-man show headed by Ed Lazzerini. It’s a young winery with well-made, pure, and age-worthy wines.
