Founder of Calista Salon & Spa in West Chester Is in the Business of Empowering Women

By

Maria McCool, the founder and co-owner of Calista Salon & Spa in West Chester and an image consultant to QVC hosts, took her styling talent to competitions worldwide before returning home to start her beauty business, writes Lisa Dukart for Main Line Today.

“When we opened the doors, we offered services like facials, massages, nails, and makeup, which nobody was doing,” she said.

Calista, which translates to “most beautiful” in Greek, is in the busines of empowering women. Through Calista, she met the beauty team at QVC and soon started consulting there. The hosts at QVC convinced her to start her own product line, Calista Tools.

“One of my first tools and our top sellers is the Perfector,” said McCool. “It came from my clients wanting to repeat the look I do (in the salon).”

Calista also launched SHINE at Penn Medicine, a fundraiser for patients who are undergoing treatment at the Abramson Cancer Center at Chester County Hospital. Stylists help cancer patients navigate their options, from a wig to styling their hair as it grows back.
