Coatesville Native a Semifinalist for ‘Academic Heisman Trophy’ of College Football

Coatesville native Jordan Young, a linebacker at Old Dominion University, has been named a semifinalist for the 2020 National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy Presented by Mazda.

The Campbell Award is considered the sport’s “Academic Heisman Trophy” and recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership.

A 2016 graduate of Coatesville High School, Young is fourth in ODU history with 246 career tackles and has started 35 of a possible 36 games in his career. Last season, he tallied 86 tackles and his first career interception. As a redshirt sophomore in 2018, he started 11 games and finished with 75 tackles. In his rookie campaign in 2017, he was named to Conference USA’s all-freshman team, making 85 tackles with six tackles for loss.

Young, who has already graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport management, is currently working toward his master’s degree in sport management.

ODU is one of three Football Bowl Subdivision programs not playing this fall, along with Connecticut and New Mexico State.
