Like many small businesses in the region, local propane delivery company Kauffman Gas was challenged by a drop in business as in-house service calls were nearly halted. Kauffman Gas needed a solution to keep the team working during such a period of uncertainty.

That’s when Kauffman Gas president Chris Kauffman decided the time was right to launch a new business he had been mulling over for years: Tank-Ful.

Tank-Ful is Chester County’s only locally-owned propane grill tank exchange delivery service. Customers order their propane tank exchange online, and Tank-Ful swaps the empty, 20-pound grill tank with a full grill tank at customers’ doorsteps for only $23.99.

No lugging a heavy grill tank to the store. No delivery charge. Just convenient, contactless grill tank exchanges.

By pivoting some resources toward Tank-Ful, the team would be able to serve the community safely through contactless propane grill tank delivery. It also helped the staff at Kauffman Gas.

“We knew if we could fill up our trucks with grill tank exchanges and deliveries, we could keep our team busy while we waited out the storm,” said Kauffman.

But he and the team knew they could use this opportunity to have a greater impact on the community. Nonprofits, and the vulnerable populations they serve, were also suffering through the pandemic.

That’s why Tank-Ful donates $2 from every transaction to local nonprofits that do important work in the community. Customers can choose one of six local nonprofits to benefit with their order at checkout.

So far, Tank-Ful is committed to donating nearly $300 to local organizations. Nonprofit partners include The Cochranville Fire Company, The Parkesburg Point, Pregnancy Resources at Cornerstone, The Factory Ministries, Young Life Southern Chester County, and the Atglen Public Library.

As its first summer delivering tanks winds to a close, Tank-Ful is thankful to have made a difference to so many happy customers.

“Never again will I haul an empty tank to Giant or Lowe’s,” a customer said on Facebook. “So easy to just set it on the porch, and like magic, the empty tank is gone and a full tank is in its place. Couldn’t be easier.”

Tank-Ful delivers tanks to doorsteps across Chester County every Wednesday. Orders must be placed by Tuesdays at 11 AM. Tank-Ful’s last delivery date of the season is Wednesday, Sept. 30.
