Phoenixville native Tyler Manion, a senior at Arizona State University’s renowned Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, recently co-hosted Sun Devil Welcome, a virtual event that welcomed more than 13,000 new students to ASU, writes Hannah Moulton Belec for ASU Now.

Manion hosted the traditional ceremony alongside Tuna Giuliano, with whom he already co-anchored Cronkite News from home during the spring. The event included interviews and special guest appearances, including ASU President Michael Crow, Undergraduate Student Government leaders, student performers, and other special guests.

Manion, who is majoring in sports journalism, took time to offer advice to ASU’s new students, as he emphasized the importance of making connections in their first year.

“My best advice for first-year students is to value relationships as much as possible,” said Manion. “Don’t limit yourself to the same kind of people you’ve always been drawn to, but expand your horizons and get to (socially distant) know as many people as you can: underclassmen, upperclassmen, faculty, and staff.”
