Eli Kahn, the president of E. Kahn Development, has welcomed the first office tenant to 44 West, the new mixed-use building at the site of the former Mosteller Department Store in West Chester, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

The project that includes a four-story building and a 10,000-square-foot plaza was delayed about four months due to the pandemic. Before that, the builder had to wait for several years until a new borough council approved his plans that included the razing of the Mosteller building.

“It was a long time getting here, but we’re here now and it’s really exciting,” said Kahn.

Kahn also expects to soon activate the plaza fountain. He believes that, once it starts operating, the plaza will become a focal point and meeting spot in downtown West Chester.

“Once the fountain opens up, it will change the way people view it,” said Kahn.

As of now, the office space in the building is 100 percent leased. One restaurant has also signed on, leaving space for another restaurant or retail tenant on the ground floor.
