Iris Richardson, who earned her master’s degree in counseling in higher education/student affairs from West Chester University, has been named the first Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion by Penn State University Police and Public Safety, writes Jennifer Cruden for Penn State News.

Richardson was selected following a national search that began in 2019. As part of her duties, she will work on developing the overall diversity, equity, and inclusion programming, as well as serve the entire PSU community at 22 campuses statewide.

“We are excited to have Iris join the University Police and Public Safety leadership team,” said Charlie Noffsinger, UPPS Assistant Vice President.

Prior to this appointment, Richardson served as Associate Director for Student Affairs at the university’s Mont Alto campus. In March, she joined UPPS, which planned to announce her new role in the fall.

However, “given the current national climate and the need to assess operations and the policing role in our communities of color, we thought it was essential that the Penn State community know the proactive steps UPPS has taken, and continues to take, to support diversity and inclusion,” said Noffsinger.
