Unionville High School graduate Erin Matson, one of the best field hockey players in the country, is tweeting training videos from her Chadds Ford home, writes Ryan Wilcox for The Daily Tar Heel.

Matson, a two-time national champion at the University of North Carolina and the National Player of the Year in 2019 as a sophomore, originally intended the clips to be for a club team she helps coach in the winter and spring. Since then, though, the videos have taken off.

“Since we’ve been stuck at home, I’ve gotten a lot of little girls asking for really simple drills that they can do in their basement, garage, outside, wherever,” said Matson. “And since I miss coaching the little ones down at UNC, I figured this is the best we can do for the time being.”

While the videos she posts are designed for beginners, Matson said they include key drills she still does regularly.

“I’m such an advocate for mastering the basics,” she said.

The four videos she has thus far posted have received more than 33,000 views.
