Since Gov. Tom Wolf cleared all construction projects to restart on May 1, Malvern-based IMC Construction has continued its non-essential work and rehired some of its furloughed employees, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Throughout the pandemic, the company has continued work on essential projects. These include ones involving the healthcare sector at four out of its dozen job sites. During this time, IMC CEO Rob Cottone has been keeping all the employees informed about the situation through virtual townhalls. He also used it as an opportunity to offer hope for the future.

The company also implemented new health and safety protocols, including daily temperature checks, strict social distancing, and increased sanitization. These measures were successful as none of IMC’s employees contracted the virus.

Now, in addition to rehiring eight of its employees, the company has restored staff salaries to 100 percent.

“We were able to do some financial projections and saw there was going to be an improvement,” said Cottone. “But, we’re still in a capital-preserving mode. It’s unclear what the full effect of this will be on our business and want to be prudent in that regard.”
