As part of his ongoing commitment to the betterment of the Greater Coatesville community and in an effort to help address unmet needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Derrick Morgan has committed an initial $10,000 to the Brandywine Health Foundation’s Health and Economic Relief Fund.

Morgan, who grew up in Coatesville and played nine years in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, is now Managing Partner of KNGDM Group and a Qualified Opportunity Zone investor.

“As this crisis began to unfold, I quickly realized that the impact of the pandemic on the effort to build and support business growth in Greater Coatesville would be devastating,” said Morgan. “I felt that as a business member of this community it was important to act decisively to address both business and community economic needs and that Brandywine Health Foundation’s new fund would be just the right vehicle to make that happen.”

Following his playing days, Morgan returned home to Coatesville to create the KNGDM Group, an organization that partners with investors, developers, and influencers to support economically distressed communities. They focus on transformational real estate development to create empowerment and economic opportunity within the communities.

This donation marks the beginning of a partnership between Brandywine Health Foundation and KNGDM Group and a call to action to other investors that will enable the Fund to expand its scope of service.

“The goal of the Healthcare and Economic Relief Fund is to help our nonprofit partners on the frontlines of serving the community during this health crisis. Now, with Derrick Morgan’s contribution, we can continue to meet the urgent needs of our community residents and expand our efforts to also support small businesses and entrepreneurs in the City of Coatesville,” said Vanessa Briggs, CEO of the Brandywine Health Foundation. “We are grateful not only for his generosity but for his unique perspective and dedication that will help ensure meeting both the basic needs of our residents and the future viability of small business and Opportunity Zone investments.”

KNGDM Group and the Brandywine Health Foundation share the fundamental belief that COVID-19 will have a severe impact on communities that were already economically distressed prior to this global pandemic.

“I believe that it is of critical importance to assure that our community and small businesses remain intact,” said Morgan. “This is a perfect opportunity for the nonprofit sector, government, and private investors to lend their support during this unprecedented time of need.”

This donation to the Healthcare and Economic Relief Fund is in support of KNGDM Group’s ongoing Opportunity Zone pursuits and will provide immediate relief for both City of Coatesville residents and small businesses. For residents, these funds will help assure that basic needs like food and personal care and household supplies are met. Small businesses will be supported by getting dollars into their hands as soon as possible to assist with employee retention and to assure the continuation of essential services to the City of Coatesville. Help will also be provided to small businesses to help them successfully navigate programs like the federal CARES Act and apply to other state and local programs and services.

“The goal is not only to help residents and small businesses survive this crisis but also to assure that we don’t lose sight of humanity in helping those in need,” said Morgan. “It is our hope that by making a difference during this public health and economic crisis, we can continue to plan for the future and build capacity through Opportunity Zone investments and ultimately increase the provision of goods and services for residents of the City of Coatesville.”
