People living with disabilities who are looking to add some muscle-building, mood-boosting, and overall feel-good exercise to their days have plenty of opportunities to do so in the Philadelphia area, writes Laura Brzyski for Philadelphia magazine.

There are 17 fitness studios and athletic organizations in the region that offer disability-friendly programs that help disabled and differently-abled folks get and stay active, motivated, and strong.

In Chester County, West Chester University’s kinesiology department runs three adaptive fitness opportunities for people with disabilities.

The Adapted Lifetime Fitness Program is held once per week and helps adults with cognitive disabilities build strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Meanwhile, the 10-week APA Wednesday Night Program focuses on adapted sport, physical education, and swimming. The program serves individuals ranging from 5 to 21 years old.

Also, over Memorial Day Weekend, the department hosts a three-day para-sports camp for school-age children who are living with visual impairments.
