Chadds Ford native Bri Brant launched her handbag business, Arden + James, when she could not find the style of tote she had been shopping for, writes Ashley Breeding for Main Line Today.
The industrial designer decided to make her own tote, which became the signature of her brand.
In the 10 years since she started Arden + James, Brant has designed exclusive collections for Urban Outfitters, as well as Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine River Museum of Art.
Two years ago, she opened her own boutique within her family’s Chadds Ford Barn Shops, where she mixes eco-friendly sensibilities with function and durability.
In her creations, she is mostly inspired by the late Victorian Eastlake style.
“Classic but functional, and without frills,” said Brant. “I think that we (as a society) have an appreciation for that again. All the excess isn’t making us happy. We want simplicity and longevity.”
Her collection reflects this simplicity in its materials and design.
