State Sen. Andy Dinniman, a Democrat and longtime Chester County resident, is retiring, writes Cynthia Fernandez for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dinniman, 75, revealed his plans not to seek reelection this year following his wife’s recent surgery.

“For nearly 30 years, as your Chester County Commissioner and State Senator, I have had the privilege of building a close relationship with the people of Chester County,” said Dinniman. “This was a very tough decision, especially knowing just how many of you have faithfully and tirelessly supported my work over the years.”

He said that, with his wife recovering from surgery, they both realized “this was not the time to run again.”

Dinniman was elected to the State Senate 14 years ago, where he also serves on the Education Committee.

Before serving as State Senator, Dinniman was a Chester County Commissioner for 15 years. During that time, he founded an emergency housing shelter and created a program to redistribute surplus produce from local farmers.

“Please know that I will continue to work hard for you until the very last day of my term,” he said.
