After the death of its original proprietor, Thomas Peter Macaluso, Macaluso Books in Kennett Square has found new life with new owners, John and Stefanie Lynn, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

In the four decades Macaluso ran the store, it was known as a treasure trove of rare books, maps, and prints that found a special place in the hearts of local book aficionados. After he died in March 2018, many were worried that the bookstore would soon be gone.

However, the Lynns decided to buy the business a few months later after John walked into the store looking for a rare find and instead came out with the idea to buy the store instead.

The pair reopened the store in its original configuration in April under the same sign and name. A few months later, they closed the store and spent the next five months transforming it. By late fall, the store reopened with both new and old books, much to the delight of its patrons.

“Every single day, we have people tell us that they are so glad that we’re continuing this space as a bookshop,” said John.
