The new HBO limited series Mare of Easttown, which was created by Berwyn native Brad Ingelsby and will star Kate Winslet, recently began filming in southeastern Pennsylvania, and a production base has been set up in the parking lot of the vacant Kmart in Thorndale, writes Beccah Hendrickson for 6ABC.
“Hopefully, the energy from this causes a little energy for the Kmart spot,” said Speer Madanat, the owner of Joey’s Pizza, which is adjacent to the parking lot. “Maybe something great will come in there for the area. We want to get (Winslet) in here and get her a slice of pizza.”
Filming around Coatesville commenced this week in places like Ash Park and Carver Court, the neighborhood that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
“We’re excited,” said Geraldine Turner, a 60-year resident of the neighborhood. “Carver Court is going to be in the movies! We’re so happy!”
Filming is expected to last through April.
