There weren’t many dry eyes in Courtroom One of the Historic Chester County Courthouse earlier this month as Chester County welcomed 53 new citizens for their Naturalization Ceremony, writes Gerald McOscar for the American Thinker.

The ceremony, sponsored by the Chester County Bar Association, is held several times a year. These newcomers embody the word “diversity.” The 53 new Americans came from more than two dozen countries from the four corners of the globe, with homelands as varied as Vietnam, Kenya, Bulgaria, and Argentina.

Family, friends, and assorted dignitaries watched as the soon-to-be-citizens raised their right hand and recited the Oath of Citizenship. They declared to “renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, Potentate, state, or sovereignty,” as well as to “support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

All of them – along with their cultures, customs, and traditions – have now become part of the melting pot that is America, “the shining city upon a hill” as described by pilgrim John Winthrop.
