Bob Madonna, the President and CEO of Surrey Services for Seniors, has announced that he will retire from Surrey, effective Jan. 3, 2020.

“While I will not totally retire, I want to spend more time with my two young grandsons and help other nonprofits grow and prosper in the community,” said Madonna, 66.

He joined Surrey, a Devon-based organization that helps older adults live with independence and dignity and continue as engaged members of the community, in January 2016.

“I join many in recognizing Bob’s contributions as our President and CEO, and thank him for his dedication to Surrey’s mission,” said Rick Davis, Chair of Surrey’s Board of Directors. “His passion on behalf of older adults made a lasting mark on the community, and his daily presence will be missed by members, supporters, volunteers, and staff.”

During Madonna’s four-year tenure, Surrey implemented a Weekend Respite Program, opened a location in East Goshen, furthered its Home Delivered Meal Program, partnered with Community Volunteers in Medicine to get free dental for low-income seniors, and increased member participation at its other centers.

“Before this role, I really feared getting older,” said Madonna, “but the amazing Surrey members have shown me that aging can be a wonderful thing as long as you are active, healthy, and keep a strong group of important people in your life.”

Surrey will begin to formulate a new, three-year strategic plan in early 2020, and Madonna thought it best that his successor has a major role in developing it.

“Bob has impacted Surrey in many ways, and we have changed by his enthusiastic leadership,” said Davis. “We look forward to Bob continuing as an ambassador for Surrey and services for older adults.”
