On October 4, National Manufacturing Day, students from West Chester Area School District, the Downingtown STEM Academy, Octorara Area High School, the Technical College High School – Pickering, and William Penn High School visited local manufacturing companies.

Chester County students from West Chester and Downingtown were paired with DFT, Inc. and Southco, Inc. while Octorara and TCHS – Pickering were matched with RV Industries and USSC Corp.  Students from William Penn in Delaware County visited Penn Machine Works, Inc.

The visits were coordinated by the Manufacturing Alliance of Chester and Delaware Counties (MACC/DC), an initiative of the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC).  The goal of the Manufacturing Day Circuit Tour is showcase area manufacturing companies and encourage students to explore advanced manufacturing careers This is the 3rd year that MACC/DC has organized a Manufacturing Day Circuit Tour for area schools in both counties.

John Cilladi, teacher from TCHS said “Our students really enjoyed the Manufacturing Day Field Trip. Most of them had never been in a manufacturing facility, so it was a great learning experience for them.”

CCEDC also offers youth career exploration programs in a variety of industries, including our popular Summer Academies where students can explore careers in engineering, cybersecurity, environmental sustainability, animal science, forensic science and healthcare.  Click here to learn more.
