West Chester Family Transforms Backyard into Water Oasis

By

Rob Grim and Kim Szymura decided to transform the backyard of their otherwise-perfect suburban home in West Chester into a gorgeous water oasis, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today.

When the two moved into the home with their three children and golden retriever, the yard was not much to look at.

“We knew there was the potential for much more,” said Grim.

They reimagined the space as a blank canvas for a family-friendly oasis with a pool centerpiece. They also decided to integrate a freestanding hot tub, an outdoor kitchen area, and a firepit.

To further improve on the new space, the pair integrated technology throughout. This included speakers for music, a sophisticated lighting system, and security cameras, all of which are controlled easily with their smartphones. They can also use their phones to turn on the waterfall, adjust the temperature in the pool, and activate the cleaning system.

“We wanted things as uncomplicated as possible,” said Grim. “We get alerts that tell us if we’re low on salt. We can adjust the lighting to suit the occasion, from Caribbean to romantic.”
