Twelve-Year-Old from Coatesville Organizing ‘Climate Strike’ in Philadelphia

By

Isaac Harte

Coatesville resident Isaac Harte, 12, a student at Delaware Valley Friends School in Paoli, is heading the organizing efforts in Philadelphia for a global “climate strike” on Sept. 20, writes Will Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Harte and a growing cadre of teen protesters in the country are hoping that the strike that is planned to take place worldwide will help push climate crisis into the forefront of issues currently being discussed in the nation, before it is too late.

“There is no ‘parent’ telling Climate Activists to do what they are doing!” Harte wrote on Twitter. “We do it because we care about our future!”

The Sept. 20 protest, when millions are expected to hit the streets in hundreds of cities across the globe, is the culmination of a number of smaller protests targeting the media, big corporations, and universities. And while most of the action is aimed globally, some of the teenage organizers are also working on local initiatives.
