West Grove will welcome its first brewery since the 1940s when Blondes & Brewnettes Brewing Co. debuts in October at Twelves Grill & Cafe, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

The brewery was the brainchild of sisters Bernadette Mellon and Beverly Snyder and their husbands, Knute Mellon and Shane Snyder. They launched the concept six years ago when all four came up with the idea to brew their own beer, and they made their first batch of Belgian beer within a week.

They then started to experiment and managed to create a number of recipes using only ingredients found in southern Chester County.

In July, the Mellons bought Twelves Grill & Cafe. At around the same time, the borough’s laws were changed to remove its “dry” status.

This meant the brewery – which is currently located at the restaurant – could apply for an official brewer’s license. Once it officially opens, Twelves will remain a BYOB and sell beer from Blondes and Brewnettes.

A community-wide, family-friendly block party is tentatively set for Oct. 5 to introduce the brewery to the borough.
