Immaculata University has entered into an agreement with the Young Men and Women in Charge (YMWIC) Foundation that guarantees admission to Immaculata for students who complete the YMWIC program and graduate from high school.

To recognize the academic accomplishments of these students, Immaculata will provide, at minimum, a $9,000 academic merit scholarship for qualifying students.

The guaranteed admission program, available for most of Immaculata’s degree programs, and the merit scholarship are effective for students entering in fall 2020 or fall 2021. In addition to satisfying other application requirements, students must be admitted as full-time, first-time students with a GPA of at least 2.5 and a combined SAT score of 990. The $9,000 merit scholarship is renewable for three additional consecutive years of full-time status provided a benchmark GPA is maintained. YMWIC students who earn a higher GPA and SAT score in high school may qualify for a higher merit scholarship.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for YMWIC and Immaculata to partner to provide financial assistance to deserving, academically prepared students,” said Sister Susan Cronin, professor of biology at Immaculata University and education consultant for YMWIC Foundation. “This assistance lowers the cost of a college degree for students and their parents and also provides the venue for the YMWIC students to share their leadership skills with the Immaculata community.”

With the knowledge that STEM job prospects have grown 79 percent and that Latinos and African-Americans are underrepresented in the STEM fields, YMWIC was created to empower young men and women from historically underrepresented minorities to become leaders in the STEM field. In the past, Sister Susan Cronin has held summer camps at Immaculata focused on engineering for young girls, and has worked with individual YMWIC chapters to help students with research projects.

Immaculata faculty and students also host Science Night Workshops for students interested in chemistry and biotechnology topics.
