Statement from Chester County Commissioners on Chester Water Authority

By

Chester County Commissioners Terence Farrell, Michelle Kichline, and Kathi Cozzone.

As County Commissioners, we are tasked with appointing three qualified Chester County citizens as members of the nine-member Chester Water Authority Board. The recent resignation of one of these board members has left a vacancy which we are currently looking to fill. Applications for this CWA Board vacancy are welcomed from any Chester County resident who lives or owns a business in Chester County and within the Chester Water Authority service area. Qualified individuals should submit a resume and cover letter, explaining why they are interested in serving on the board and how they are qualified, to Kara Rahn, Chester County Deputy Administrator, at krahn@chesco.org.

We are accepting applications for this CWA Board vacancy until August 31, 2019 and after a review of the applications and follow-up interviews, our recommendation for the new CWA Board member will be announced at a subsequently scheduled Chester County Commissioners’ Sunshine Meeting. In all decisions that we make as Commissioners our intent is to best serve Chester County citizens. Our decision in selecting the new CWA Board member is no exception.

In 2017, the CWA Board (including the three Chester County representatives on the Board) voted unanimously to reject the offer by Aqua to purchase the CWA. At that time we noted that we believed the CWA Board acted appropriately in making that decision. That determination forms the basis of pending litigation in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.

Sincerely,
Michelle Kichline, Kathi Cozzone, and Terence Farrell
Chester County Commissioners
