Kennett High School graduate Evan Brown, 20, dominated the Delaware Amateur last week by capturing his first title in the 68th Annual Delaware State Golf Association Tournament at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, writes Andy Walter for the Delaware State News.

Brown, who won the Ches-Mont League championship as a senior at Kennett, was a first-team All-Patriot League selection at Loyola (Md.) University this spring. He took control in the morning round by hitting a four-under-par 68. This turned out to be the lowest round of the 72-hole tourney.

This was a remarkable improvement over last year’s tournament, where Brown finished fourth.

“Obviously, coming off last year, I wanted to do better,” said Brown. “I felt like I could have played better than I did.”

This year, he put his stamp on the course from the very start with a birdie on the first hole. This was followed up by an eagle on the second hole. Just eight holes in, Brown was already five under par for the day.

“I’m really excited with how I played this week,” said Brown. “I can’t really ask for much more.”
