Jerry Gorski have given new meaning to the phrase “old school.” The developer has turned his former Collegeville school into condominiums and is betting the idea will sell.

The building, established in 1939, served the community for 80 years before the 72,000-square-foot school at 29 E. Fire Avenue was closed by Perkiomen Valley School District in 2008. The school district was unable to find tenants and the building remained vacant until Gorski Engineering Inc. paid $1.6 million in 2016 for the property, writes Natalie Kostelni in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Gorski spent $8 million to convert  the building into 30 condos. He called the building Stoneschool to reflect the structure’s former use and the materials used to construct it. “It was in pretty rough shape,” Gorksi said. “It’s a labor of love to do something with this building and make something out of it.”

Units at Stoneschool are priced between  $300,000 and $550,000 and range between 1,100 square feet to 3,000 square feet. There are three two-story units — one that is 3,768 square feet.

Gay Davidson of the Davidson Group, which is overseeing sales and marketing at Stoneschool, said the condos should be attractive to all ages and even those who enjoy having more than one residence. “This is a different mindset,” she said. “A buyer will like the originality of this.”
