More than 100 people arrived on the grounds of the Graystone Mansion in Coatesville last week to express their gratitude to Chaya Scott, the outgoing executive director of the Coatesville Youth Initiative.

CYI is a nonprofit committed to youth-led, transformational community change that trains youth leaders, enhances family relationships, encourages prevention education, and builds community collaboration.

Scott was the founding executive director of CYI, which started as a project of the Brandywine Health Foundation in 2008. Her commitment to excellence grew CYI from its infancy with the Brandywine Health Foundation to the strong, independent organization that it is today.

“We are exceptionally grateful to Chaya for her hard work and dedication over the last decade,” said Shannan Thomas, the Chair of CYI’s Board of Directors. “She and the talented CYI staff made tremendous strides in youth leadership and development.”

Scott helped forge partnerships with more than 40 organizations to offer innovative, data-informed, strategic programs and initiatives benefiting youth and families. During her tenure, CYI has:

• trained the next generation of leaders to use their voices and serve the community
• partnered with families and built a network of support to assist them when they need a helping hand
• promoted safety and healthy decision-making among youth by working with business leaders, residents, and law enforcement
• worked with passionate, service-oriented community partners to exponentially increase the positive impact CYI can make in the lives of those it serves

“The Board of Directors are grateful for the foundation that was laid and very excited about the strategic direction of the organization for the next 10 years,” said Thomas.

CYI plans to hire an interim executive director in the near future.
