The Keystone Valley Fire Department, in a partnership with the Parkesburg VFW and the Borough of Parkesburg, recently held a parade and dedication of its new building and housing.

The newly renovated Keystone Valley Fire Department Central Station on West First Avenue was completed in the fall of 2018 at the cost of $2,699,980. It is a staple within the community and a centerpiece for the redevelopment of the local business district in Parkesburg.

Soon, it will be followed by the opening of a Planet Fitness.

An integral part of the KVFD’s renovation project was a partnership with the Parkesburg VFW Post 4480. With the VFW’s assistance, a Veterans Memorial Garden was built in front of the building. This area will commemorate all local veterans who have perished in every major conflict; will contain a memorial to recognize the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001: and will recognize local firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“No matter the cost, we need teach our children to remember and honor all of these men and women who not only gave, but are still giving us the freedoms and the security we have today,” said KVFD Lt. Tim Reynolds, who chaired the building committee. “I’m very proud of everything we accomplished and cannot thank everyone enough for their dedication, help, and support for the project. Without a team of good players, we would have never been able to do this.”

KVFD began operations in the spring of 2013 by consolidating the Atglen Fire Company, Parkesburg Fire Company No. 1, and Pomeroy Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. The new, regional department provides local communities with a stronger emergency service presence at a reduced cost.

“The new station will be a key landmark in downtown Parkesburg, an indispensable institution within the larger community,” said State Sen. Andy Dinniman.
