Conestoga High School graduate Ruth Meyer has been honored with the 2019 John K. Williams Jr. International Adapted Aquatics Award, writes Andy Ross for Swimming World.

The award is presented annually to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions in the field of adaptive aquatics.

“This is such an honor,” said Meyer.

Meyer, who swam competitively at Conestoga High School, has been volunteering or working in the field of adapted aquatics since her days at Bucknell University in the 1970s. She started teaching adapted aquatics after receiving her Master of Education in Kinesiotherapy from the University of Toledo.

Later, while working as a kinesiotherapist, she added several instructor and therapist titles to her qualifications, including AAHPERD Adapted Aquatics Master Trainer and ATRI aquatic therapist.

Since then, she has given presentations or taught at all the major aquatic and therapy organizations worldwide. She has also published numerous articles on health and wellness.

These days, Meyer is a kinesiotherapist in employee wellness, weight management, health coaching, rehab, and aquatic therapy at Hunter Holmes McGuire V.A. Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
