A new independent bookstore in Phoenixville is hoping to carve a niche in the Age of Amazon by becoming a true community bookshop, writes Maria Panaritis for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Reads & Company is co-owned by Jason Hafer, who used to own and run Wolfgang Books in Phoenixville, and former QVC executive Robb Cadigan.

The pair seems to possess enough knowledge and market-savvy to make the 2,400-square-foot store a hit. They attracted more than 2,000 followers to their Facebook page before the store even opened.

To establish Reads & Company as a community bookstore, the owners plan to have author visits at the Colonial Theater, after-school events in the children’s book nook, and Book of the Month picks from the mayor and the director of the Colonial.

“It’ll be a mixture of town leaders and readers who want to tell their neighbors what they’re reading,” said Hafer. “If you’re standing in front of a bookshelf with 300 books on it, and you see a sign that says, ‘The high school principal thinks this is a great book to read,’ that carries a lot of weight.”
