Pennsylvanians’ affinity for good brew has propelled the state into the Top 10 Best States for Beer Lovers, according to a recently published report from Groupon.

To determine the rankings for its Best States for Beer Lovers, Groupon focused on three main metrics: Quality, Affordability, and Enthusiasm.

Quality was determined by the average score of the five best-tasting beers made in a state. Affordability was the average cost of a 12-ounce beer in each state. Enthusiasm was determined by the number of beer-related Groupons sold per 1,000 people in each state.

Pennsylvania was seventh overall, with its best showing in the Enthusiasm category at fourth.

The Keystone State also ranked highly on Quality at No. 13. Meanwhile, Affordability was the only category in which Pennsylvania placed in the bottom half at No. 29.

Pennsylvania was also the state with the largest discrepancy between its bar prices (No. 3) and store prices (No. 50). The reason for this drastic difference in pricing is most the likely the strict laws regulating retail alcohol sales.
