It’s an exciting time for the Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America, an organization with a rich heritage in building leadership skills in our youth.

Chartered in 1919, the CCCBSA is celebrating its 100th year of preparing young people to become responsible, participating citizens and leaders. In January, the Chester County Council welcomed Jeff Spencer – who has previously served councils in Pittsburgh, Albany, Wilmington, Manchester, N.H., and Mechanicsburg – as its new Scout Executive.

Also, Scouts, BSA – the program that serves 11- to 18-year-olds – recently began welcoming girls as members, thus allowing more young people than ever before to experience the benefits of a time-tested program that builds character and leadership.

Amidst these developments, the CCCBSA is at a pivotal point in its fundraising for the new PARC project in Exton. Ground has been broken for the Program, Activity & Resource Campus – a state-of-art facility on magnificent land that will benefit not just the 5,700-plus Scouts but also the community at large – but additional help is needed before it becomes a reality. The CCCBSA is almost $1 million short of its financial goal, and the organization needs your help to get to the finish line. Click here to donate.

“PARC will not only be beneficial to our Scouting community, but to our local communities in Chester County as well,” said Spencer. “We intend for this new facility and tremendous property to be an asset that can be utilized in many ways to serve both our Scouts and our fellow citizens. We’ll have ample meeting space both inside the building and outside on the grounds that will offer both boys and girls of all ages and backgrounds educational programs that develop character and leadership training, while offering outdoor activities and career awareness in fields such as STEM, business, and skilled trades. We also can use our wetlands, stream, and open space to teach and practice ecology, conservation, and sustainability. We’re extremely excited about all the opportunities PARC will bring to our council and our community.”

To celebrate its centennial, the CCCBSA will hold a Day of Service in communities all across the county on Saturday, April 13. The Scouts are coordinating around 30 different projects that include planting trees and flowers, weeding, mulching, picking up trash, clearing trails, collecting food, and painting stripes in parking lots.

“Community service is a significant part of the Scouting program and teaches youth the value of helping others and how to learn to work together,” said Spencer. “Our Day of Service on April 13 is a fantastic opportunity for our Scouts and Scouters to show our appreciation to our communities through various service projects and share with them Chester County Council’s centennial celebration. There are very few Scouting councils left in the BSA that are 100 years old. We’re unique and special in that way!”
