Amazon’s New QVC-Like Service Proves That Imitation Is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

By

Amazon is targeting the live digital shopping space dominated by West Chester-based QVC with Amazon Live, its new digital home shopping streaming service, writes Dan Berthiaume for Chain Store Age.

The new service is available on Amazon and as a mobile app offering live video streams of presenters demonstrating various products for sale. Customers can choose a stream from the carousel below the video screen with each heading, including a product image and the link to its Amazon page.

In addition to its presenters broadcasting from an Amazon studio, the service also integrates the streams offered by the brands themselves. The company has also released the Amazon Live Creator iOS app. This streamlines the process for brands to interactively live stream via Amazon’s site and its app.

The introduction of Amazon Live was made through a social media posting without any formal announcement. But according to a testimonial from card-game manufacturer Watch Ya’Mouth, the service is already showing positive results.

It said that participation in Amazon Live has resulted in an increase in visitors to its Amazon page, along with significant sales growth.
