Chester County Community Foundation

Throughout April, and again in November, the Foundation will host three Philanthropy Video Talks & Receptions as part of its 25th anniversary celebration. Each event will feature a viewing of Dan Palotta’s TED talk, “The Way We Think about Charity Is Dead Wrong,” followed by a discussion led by community leaders who will discuss their vision for philanthropy to meet community needs today and in perpetuity.

  • The first program is Wednesday, April 3 at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center in West Chester.
  • The second program is Monday, April 8 at Longwood Gardens Theater in Kennett Square.
  • The third program is Monday, April 29 at The Colonial Theater in Phoenixville.

Audience members will be invited to join the discussion by asking questions and sharing their input. Before and after the program, there will be receptions with food and drinks, along with opportunities for networking.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Please contact Beth at events@chescocf.org or call 610-696-8211 to make a reservation.

National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum

Each year, the NISHM honors an individual who inspires and makes the regional community a better place. This person also demonstrates the qualities of America’s first female industrialist, Rebecca Lukens: leadership, resilience, courage, and strategic outlook.

Do you know someone in the region that is deserving of the Rebecca Lukens Award? E-mail your nomination to admin@steelmuseum.org. Please include a short biography and reasons why the individual is deserving of the award. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 15. The recipient will be revealed later this month.

Immaculata University

Immaculata is hosting a social media workshop/competition for high school students on Saturday, April 6 from 9 AM-2 PM in Great Hall. The event, called Social Media Mashup, will include a keynote address by Tim Stoeckle, social media coordinator of the Philadelphia Phillies, and other professionals from local businesses.

Participants will attend break-out sessions moderated by social media experts and will compete in a team competition. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for this free event. Registration is required in advance. This event, for grades 9-12, focuses on responsible and effective use of social media in the business environment.

“In today’s world, it is vitally important to use social media in an effective and responsible way,” said Elizabeth Faunce, Chair of Immaculata’s Business, Fashion, and Leadership Department. “I am excited that Immaculata is offering this event for high school students to learn about social media beyond functionality.”
