General Hospital, the long-running soap opera, has added Coby Ryan McLaughlin, a 1992 graduate of Downingtown High School, to its colorful cast, writes Janet Di Lauro for SoapHub.com.

As per usual with soap operas, there is much more than meets the eye to McLaughlin’s character. It turns out that he shared combat time with Billy Miller’s character (Drew) before changing his name and showing up in Port Charles.

McLaughlin, who moved to the West Coast after attending Penn State, started his professional acting career two decades ago with a background part in an episode of the The X-Files. His film debut was in a 2003 action-adventure movie, Lost Treasure, starring Stephen Baldwin and Nicollette Sheridan.

This is not his first stint with soaps, though, as he played Andrew Lynford in several episodes of The Young and the Restless last September.

His best-known role to date is that of Julia Braverman’s boyfriend, Chris, on Parenthood.
