The Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry will honor Karen Carlson, the Director of Corporate Giving and Community Affairs at Aqua, with its 2019 Women Influencing Business Executive of the Year Award.

Carlson will receive the award at the chamber’s annual WIB Dinner on June 5 at the Chester Valley Golf Club in Malvern.

The WIB EOTY Award honors the accomplishments of a female executive who has made an impact in her business and made a positive impact in the region.

Carlson joined Aqua America in 1982 as Executive Assistant to the company’s Chairman and CEO. Ten years later, following a leadership transition, she began to work closely with the new leadership, as well as the legislative affairs, communications, and community relations teams.

Carlson helped the company establish a foundation that would become the new source of its corporate giving. Today, she remains responsible for the coordination of the company’s financial contributions to organizations throughout Pennsylvania and oversees Aqua Charitable Trust donations in the eight states Aqua serves.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen as the WIB Executive of the Year by the Chester County Chamber and its WIB Committee,” said Carlson. “I have enjoyed working in the corporate giving arena and have always considered it a privilege to be able to have a role in supporting such worthy organizations that have a positive impact on the communities Aqua serves.

“I’m fortunate that my position at Aqua enables me to develop relationships with organizations our company supports both through financial gifts, as well as through volunteerism, throughout our service territory.”

“Karen has been a driving force in our government affairs council,” said CCCBI President Guy Ciarrocchi. “And we know that Karen’s positive impact reaches far beyond the chamber across the Delaware Valley and in business, civic, and charitable work.”

“Karen has been the staple of Aqua’s corporate giving program for nearly 30 years,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “She is the primary liaison between our company and the many organizations and causes we have supported over the past three decades. Karen assumed a leading role in our company’s Ripple Effect program, which encourages Aqua employees to volunteer for select projects in the hundreds of communities we serve throughout the state, including 35 municipalities in Chester County.

“Her love for volunteerism and giving back exemplifies Aqua’s core values to pursue excellence for our customers and the communities we serve. Karen is an excellent choice for this award, and we congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.”
