Sixteen German shepherds that were found living in extremely neglectful conditions in Georgia have been saved by the Brandywine Valley SPCA, which provides animal protective services for Chester County and much of Delaware County, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

The dogs were quiet and friendly during and after the long ride. They will receive medical exams and be individually evaluated to determine the best steps to be taken to help them recover. They will then be placed in both foster and forever homes.

“They were living in severe neglect with no access to food and water, while living in a field,” said BVSPCA marketing director Linda Torelli.

Local authorities in Georgia suspect the site was a puppy mill. The property owner is facing animal cruelty charges.

The rescued dogs have not yet been named and are currently identified by number.

“Our ultimate goal is to get these dogs into permanent homes,” said Torelli. “These dogs have been through an incredible amount, but they are also very sweet.”
