The home brewers provided the beer and the Minquas Fire Company No. 2 provided shelter from the storm.

On a recent rainy Saturday, more than 350 beer enthusiasts gathered at the Minquas Firehouse for the First Annual D-town Brew Down presented by DNB First. More than 20 home brewers produced creative varieties of lagers, ales, and porters for judging and consumption.

The first-place winner was Shawn Plaugher and Steven Dunn’s “D’Towner Weisse.” Kiel Fisher won second place, and Rob and Abby Dougherty took third place. Plaugher and Dunn won the People’s Choice Award for their “Unavoidable Bee Parts” brew, which will generously be produced for sale by Locust Lane Craft Brewery in Malvern.

The merry gathering benefited the Downingtown Library. Musical entertainment was provided by Afrobear and the dulcet ukulele tones of the D’town Ukesters, the ukulele club that meets monthly at the Downingtown Library.

The Downingtown Library thanks all of its generous sponsors who made the event possible, and gives a special thanks to the Minquas Fire Company and the Borough of Downingtown for their support.
